Szczepin Cookies

action, made to order “Chinese cookies” with personalized messages inside, jars, print outs, 2017

As a part of the second edition of “What can I make for you?” project I conducted a series of interviews with Szczepin (a quarter of Wroclaw, Poland) inhabitants asking questions related to their needs, expectations, relations and desires.

The most commonly expressed ones turned out to be: a sense of a community – collaboration, openness and kindness towards each other.

“Szczepin Cookies” were created to show to the people of Szczepin that they have common needs and desires, and they share the same deficiencies and fears. To help them acknowledge the fact that they have more in common than just the territory they’ve settled on.
This awareness might break their fatalism, initiate a change in the way they perceive each other and subsequently, by diminution of social alienation, might make a collective attempt at fulfilling theirs very needs possible.

Inside every cookie there is a statement of Szczepinians to be found. Some of the cookies include the phone number to the Szczepin Estate Council, which connects the inhabitants’ activities with institutions and local initiatives.

The “Szczepin Cookies” were distributed for free in selected places in Szczepin: in local shops, Municipal Social Welfare Centres, community centres and offices of local organisations.
The neighbours are sharing: please, help yourself too!

Szczepin Estate Council, local Cultural Centre „Promyk” and the very people of Szczepin have gotten vlountary engaged in this action Partner of the project: Szczepin Estate Council.
