SOCIAL UP SPACING_A SPACE FOR RECYCLING

A public space notion is relative and wide. It as much refers to the ephemeral matter of senses as to the corporeality of a pavement.

Social Up Spacing- Space for Recycling explores many of its definitions and poses a question on how to domesticate and befriend it. Especially by using recycled materials through interventions and through a personalisation (provoking individual, unique experiences).

The project took place on Spoleczny Place- a big, undeveloped and unused for decades lawn that is placed in the very city centre.
All invited artists in their own unique way have responded to The 2012 Avant Art Festival motto Space for Culture enriching it with a social aspect.

There were two main common factors for all of the authors: first one was basic material used for producing their creations: recycled, post production scraps and waste. Second one: main focus on generating the potential of an interaction / a contact (between the spectator and the work, between the works itself and between a Human and the Nature). The whole creative process was open to he public.

As an effect a Space have emerged – a space that was attracting and integrating people, while stimulating them to use their imagination and to ask questions. Social Up Spacing was also ecologically educating by displaying examples of good practices.

The citizens of Wroclaw got engaged themselves in the very process of making tis project happen by voluntary work and by collecting and donating waste materials (i.e. PET bottles, wood waste, pallets, banners, plastic etc.)
