Upbringing of girls happens in passiveness and silence
Girls and later Women have to wait
In silence and chastity. With no connections to why and what for
Any step outside the golden cage is life threatening
Upbringing of boys happens in activeness and silence
Boys and later Men have to fight
Fight-act-solve. With no connection to why and what for
Any step outside the fight field is life threatening
Site specific video installation: on the walls of two empty pools there was projected two looped videos each composed of fragments of the one and only computer game that I played during my late childhood/ early adolescence: “The Prince of Persia”.
Back then, passionately going through levels of this computer game I identified mostly with The Prince who – wanting to free The Princess had to overcome endless dangerous obstacles. I wanted to free her not out of my love to her, but out of a deep feeling of pity and unjustness…
Instalation was composed of two simultaneous, looped video projections screened in two old empty pools. In one pool there was screened a looped video with the sequences of The Princess in her chamber, in the second one with The Prince in the labyrinth.
Installation of those two extreme different approaches in life (none on which being complete, authentic or free), juxtaposed one next to another in closed, separated by the wall spaces, symbolises and points out at social gender conditioning, separation and potential danger of braking out of the social roles.
Cooperation with: EME (HU)
Curator: Marzena Krzemińska
An installation was created for The Wroclaw Underwater Festival 2009 art section.
